Two delivery lorries loaded with beer have been stolen from an Estrella Damm depot in Mallorca. Staff discovered the vehicles were missing early on Friday morning, and the National Police in Palma have opened an investigation.
The stolen vehicles
- a Renault lorry, registration 4126 MKN;
- a Mitsubishi lorry, registration 0522 KWX.
Both are painted in Estrella Damm’s red livery and carry the brand’s logo. They were already loaded with stock for delivery, although the company had not yet established exactly how much beer was taken.
How the thieves got in
Investigators are examining whether the thieves cut through the depot’s perimeter fence to get inside, and whether they chose the early hours, when few staff are on site, to drive the lorries away without being noticed.
The search
Police are:
- reviewing security camera footage from the depot and surrounding roads;
- checking garages, warehouses and other places where the vehicles could be hidden;
- asking local businesses and drivers whether they saw the lorries on the road.
Because the lorries are so distinctive, police believe they are likely to be spotted if they are still being driven around the island. However, the beer may already have been unloaded and sold on, which would make it much harder to trace.
Anyone who has seen either lorry is asked to contact the National Police on 091.
The theft comes in a year when Estrella Damm is celebrating its 150th anniversary, and the brand has a high profile on the island as a sponsor of events including the Trofeu Ciutat de Palma.
