Amnesia, one of Ibiza’s most famous clubs, is marking its 50th anniversary with a free afternoon party on 8 July, with all donations going to environmental projects on the islands.
A free party with a cause
Entry is free, but guests are encouraged to donate to Ibiza & Formentera Preservation, with all of the money going to conservation work in the Pitiusas.
The headliner
The DJ for the event is Marlon Hoffstadt, the German producer who has become one of the most in-demand names in electronic music in recent years, with high-energy sets and a strong following among younger clubbers.
Back to the beginning
Unlike Amnesia’s usual all-night events, this party takes place in the afternoon, with a relaxed, open atmosphere. The idea is to evoke the club’s early days in the 1970s, when it began in an old farmhouse near Sant Rafel and music was a meeting point for people of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds — long before Ibiza became a global party destination.
Where the money goes
Ibiza & Formentera Preservation has been working for more than 15 years on the islands’ main environmental challenges, supporting projects in:
- marine conservation, including the protection of Posidonia seagrass meadows;
- land biodiversity, protecting native plants and animals;
- the circular economy, reducing waste and promoting recycling;
- sustainable local food production;
- research and monitoring of environmental problems.
The foundation says it has helped raise more than €5 million for environmental projects since it was created.
A message for the island
Tourism places heavy pressure on Ibiza’s water, land and coastline. By linking its anniversary to conservation, Amnesia is sending a message that celebrating the island also means looking after it — and showing that club culture can contribute to that effort.
Half a century after it opened, Amnesia remains one of the defining names of Ibiza nightlife, and its anniversary party is a chance for residents as well as visitors to be part of that history.
