Autoescuela Residencial has again finished as the Ibiza driving school with the most students passing their tests, according to 2025 figures from Spain’s traffic authority, the DGT. It is the fifth consecutive year that the school has led the island’s rankings.
The figures
According to the DGT data:
- the number of students passing their test with the school rose by more than 22% compared with 2024;
- it recorded more than double the passes of the second-placed school on the island;
- across the Balearic Islands as a whole, it ranked fourth — notable given that Ibiza’s population is much smaller than Mallorca’s.
A bigger team
Three new instructors joined in 2025, bringing the team to 20 people: 15 teaching staff and five in administration. The school has also added an automatic Piaggio Beverly motorcycle for A2 licence training, making the step up to a full A licence easier.
Schools and students
The school ran a programme with the Mestral school, bringing driving lessons to sixth-form students so they can get their licence before going to university.
It also offers a discount linked to university entrance exam results: students’ marks are multiplied by ten to give a discount in euros on enrolment.
In the community
The school sponsors several local sports clubs, including Ibiza Volley, Penya Esportiva Sant Jordi and Ibiza Rugby Club, as well as teams competing in the Pujada a Sa Cala hill climb.
On International Women’s Day it paid tribute to Lourdes Marí Tur, considered the first woman in Ibiza to obtain a driving licence, in 1959.
Getting a licence in Ibiza
Like the rest of Spain, Ibiza has faced long waits for practical driving tests because of a shortage of examiners. Pass rates and the speed at which students can get a test date are therefore a key factor for anyone choosing a driving school on the island.
