Wildfire risk
Aemet warns of a very high to extreme risk of wildfires, starting in the Migjorn area in the south of Mallorca and spreading across the island as the week goes on.
- Do not light fires or barbecues in the countryside.
- Never throw cigarette ends from cars or on the ground.
- Avoid using machinery that could cause sparks near dry vegetation.
- If you see smoke or flames, call 112 immediately.
Staying safe in the heat
- Drink water regularly, even if you are not thirsty, and avoid alcohol in the hottest hours.
- Wear light, loose, light-coloured clothing and a hat.
- Plan outdoor activities, sport and walks for early morning or evening.
- Keep blinds closed during the day.
- Check on elderly neighbours and relatives, who are most at risk.
Dizziness, headache, nausea and extreme tiredness can be signs of heat exhaustion. Move to a cool place, drink water and rest; if symptoms worsen or the person becomes confused, call 112.
