Mallorca is enjoying unusually mild weather for February, with highs of up to 22°C forecast — but the warmth comes with strong winds, rough seas and rain later in the week.
Well above average
On Tuesday, maximum temperatures were expected to reach 18–22°C, three to six degrees higher than on Monday and well above the usual February average in Mallorca of around 15°C. Nights are also unusually mild, with lows of 8–13°C, compared with a typical February minimum of around 6°C.
Aemet’s delegate in the Balearics, María José Guerrero, attributes the warmth to a persistent westerly flow bringing mild air towards the islands.
Day by day
Tuesday. Cloudy with occasional showers. Light to moderate winds from the west and south-west during the day, with gusts of up to 60 km/h at night. Yellow warning for coastal conditions in the south from the evening, with waves of 2–3 metres.
Wednesday 11 February. Still very mild, with highs of 18–22°C and lows of 10–16°C. Westerly winds strengthen to 60–70 km/h, and the coastal warning extends to all coasts, with waves of 3–4 metres.
Thursday 12 February. Clearer skies but stronger winds, with gusts of 70–80 km/h in many areas and up to 100 km/h in the mountains. Highs fall slightly to 12–18°C.
Friday 13 and Saturday 14 February. A new Atlantic weather system brings widespread rain and continued strong westerly winds.
Advice
- Take care on the coast: avoid sea walls and exposed rocks while waves are high.
- Boat owners should check moorings and avoid going out to sea while warnings are in force.
- Secure loose objects on terraces and balconies ahead of the strongest winds.
- Drivers should take care on mountain roads, where gusts and fallen branches are possible.
The mild spell does not mean winter is over: Aemet notes that colder spells are still possible later in the month. For official warnings, check Aemet’s website or app.
