PalmaActiva, Palma city council’s employment and business agency, has organised recruitment days for 130 jobs with Marriott International and Son Vida Golf.
The jobs
The vacancies cover a range of hotel roles, including:
- reception;
- kitchen;
- bar and restaurant;
- housekeeping.
How to apply
Candidates must register in advance through the PalmaActiva website. Interviews will take place on 17 and 18 February, in morning and afternoon sessions, at PalmaActiva’s offices.
PalmaActiva’s role
The agency supports the employers throughout the process: publicising the vacancies, carrying out the initial screening of CVs and organising the interviews. Services like this are free for both job seekers and companies.
The labour market
Rodrigo Romero, Palma’s councillor for economic promotion and employment, said the recruitment days showed that the labour market continues to send clear signals of strength, with strong demand for workers in hospitality ahead of the season.
Why recruitment starts in winter
In Mallorca, hotels begin recruiting for the season in the winter months, as many establishments reopen in spring. Finding staff has become more difficult in recent years, partly because of the high cost of housing, which makes it harder for workers from elsewhere to move to the island. Hotels in Son Vida, a residential and golf area on the outskirts of Palma, compete with many others for experienced staff.
Tips for candidates
- Register early on the PalmaActiva website, as places for interviews may be limited.
- Bring an up-to-date CV, and copies of any qualifications or certificates, such as food handling.
- Languages are a big advantage in Mallorca’s hotel sector, especially English and German.
- Be ready to talk about your availability, including weekends and shift work.
PalmaActiva also offers free training courses and job search support for people looking for work in Palma throughout the year.
