Advice
When amber wind alerts are in force, the emergency services recommend:
- securing or bringing inside objects on balconies and terraces;
- avoiding walks near cliffs, breakwaters and seafronts, where waves can be dangerous;
- staying away from trees and scaffolding;
- driving carefully, especially with high-sided vehicles, and watching for fallen branches;
- not going out to sea in small boats.
Ferry passengers should also check with their company before travelling, as sailings between the islands and to the mainland can be delayed or cancelled in rough seas.
