The heat is building in Mallorca. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a yellow heat alert for the south of the island on Thursday 18 June, from midday to 7pm, with temperatures of up to 36°C.
Where the alert applies
The southern zone covers the coastal municipalities from Andratx to Ses Salines, including Calvià, Palma, Llucmajor and Campos. The alert applies to the area as a whole: some places may stay cooler, while others could reach the forecast maximum.
A yellow alert means that temperatures are high enough to pose a risk to vulnerable people and anyone doing physical activity outdoors. The alert could be extended to other parts of the island, particularly the interior, if the heat continues.

- Friday: highs in the low 30s in most places, up to 37°C in Binissalem.
- Saturday: hotter still, with 38°C possible in Binissalem and Sóller.
- Sunday: the peak, with up to 40°C forecast in Binissalem — a level that would trigger an amber alert.
How to cope with the heat
- Drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
- Wear light, loose clothing and a hat.
- Avoid physical activity outdoors in the middle of the day.
- Use sunscreen and reapply it every two hours.
- Cool down with showers and fans, and keep blinds closed during the day.
- Watch for signs of heat exhaustion — dizziness, headache, heavy sweating or unusual tiredness — and rest in a cool place if they appear.
Older people, babies, pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses are most at risk, so it is worth checking on vulnerable relatives and neighbours during hot spells.
