Tips to stay cool
- Drink water regularly, even if you are not thirsty.
- Stay in the shade or indoors during the hottest hours, from midday to the evening.
- Wear light clothing — loose, light-coloured fabrics help sweat evaporate.
- Keep your home cool: close blinds during the day and ventilate at night.
- Look after others: older neighbours, young children and pets are particularly vulnerable.
When to seek help
Heatstroke is a medical emergency. Signs include a very high body temperature, hot dry skin, confusion and loss of consciousness. Call 112 immediately and cool the person down while you wait for help.
