Saturday will be sunny and hot across Mallorca, with highs in the mid-30s, and it is the prelude to a heatwave. The state meteorological agency, Aemet, has said that heatwave conditions will begin on Sunday.
The heatwave
Temperatures across most of the island are expected to reach around 38°C, with some inland areas possibly hitting 39°C by Wednesday. Aemet expects the episode to ease after Wednesday, although it will remain hot.
No heat warnings had been issued at the time of the forecast, but they are likely as temperatures build.
The UV index on Saturday is very high (9), so sun protection is essential.
