Monday could bring something unusual to Mallorca: Aemet says there is a chance of “mud rain” — light showers carrying Saharan dust — and even a dry thunderstorm, although most forecasts show only a small chance of rain. Skies will be cloudy at times, temperatures similar to Sunday’s and breezy in many areas.
The week ahead
After Monday, the weather turns sunny with occasional cloud, and temperatures will climb through the week, reaching around 38°C inland on Saturday.

What is mud rain?
When southerly winds carry dust from the Sahara over the Mediterranean, rain falling through the dusty air brings the particles down with it, leaving a layer of brownish mud on cars, terraces and windows. It is harmless in itself, but can be a nuisance. Dust in the air can also affect air quality, so people with respiratory problems should take care.
Tips
- If you were planning to wash your car, wait until after Monday.
- Keep a light jacket for breezy areas.
- With temperatures rising later in the week, start getting into hot-weather habits: water, shade and avoiding the hottest hours.
