When Bebe takes the stage at Las Dalias on Thursday 9 July — her first concert in Ibiza in almost a decade — she will be playing one of the island’s most distinctive venues.
A place with history
Las Dalias opened in Sant Carles de Peralta in the 1950s as a roadside bar and gradually became a meeting point for the hippies who arrived in Ibiza in the 1960s and 70s. Its Saturday market, started in the 1980s, is now one of the best-known on the island, selling crafts, clothes, jewellery and food, and drawing visitors and residents alike.
The music programme
Alongside the market, Las Dalias has built a strong reputation for live music. Its Las Dalias Live Music series brings established Spanish and international artists to an intimate setting, in contrast with the big club stages that dominate Ibiza’s summer.
Bebe’s return
The concert takes place in the venue’s garden, with doors at 8pm and the show starting at 9pm.
Bebe’s return comes two decades after her debut album, Pafuera telarañas (2004), whose songs — including “Malo”, a powerful song about domestic violence — made her one of the defining Spanish voices of her generation. Fans can expect her best-known songs alongside material from her later albums.
A reunion
For Bebe, the concert is a reunion with an Ibiza audience that has followed her since her early days. For Las Dalias, it is another example of the venue’s role as a stage for artists whose music is about the words as much as the beat.
