The Teatro Pereyra in Ibiza town has a new summer residency: La Cucaracha, a Latin music party that will take over the historic venue every Saturday from July to September.
From Madrid and Puerto Rico
La Cucaracha has built a loyal following in Madrid and Puerto Rico by combining live music, DJs and social dancing. This is the first time it will have a regular weekly slot in Ibiza.
The music
Rather than sticking to one style, the party covers the breadth of Latin and tropical music:
- salsa, merengue and bachata;
- plena and boogaloo;
- classic reggaetón;
- Afro house and urban Latin sounds.
The organisers describe Latin music as a living, constantly evolving tradition, and the night is designed to bring the classics and newer sounds onto the same dance floor.
Everyone on the floor
A key idea behind the party is to break down the barrier between performers and audience. Whether the music comes from a live band or a DJ, the aim is to get the whole room dancing, regardless of experience. The emphasis is on music and dancing rather than VIP tables and bottle service.
Part of a bigger night
This summer the Pereyra has launched WHO, a show combining dinner, live performance and music. On Saturdays, La Cucaracha takes over the space once WHO finishes, extending the night.
Opening night
The residency opens on Saturday 4 July and continues every Saturday until September.
Teatro Pereyra, built in 1898 as a theatre and later a cinema, sits next to the Hotel Montesol on Vara de Rey and is one of the best-known music venues in Ibiza town, with live music throughout the year.
