Ibiza’s racing pigeon fanciers are set to feature prominently at the awards ceremony for the 2026 Balearic season, held in Palma on Sunday, led by the father-and-son tandem of José Tur from CC Santa Eulàlia.
The Tur tandem
José Tur senior and junior had one of the strongest seasons of any Balearic fanciers. Their birds earned them:
- third place in the overall Balearic championship, behind Lluís Arrom of CC Binissalem and the Mut-Núñez tandem of CC Porreres;
- first place in the overall Ibiza championship, ahead of the Torres-Marsà tandem (CC Santa Eulàlia) and Miguel Ángel Prats (CC Missatger Eivissa).
The Tur tandem was also the overall winner of the “Wings over the Mediterranean” award.
Speed and middle distance
Ibizan fanciers also dominated the speed category, with Juan Torres (CC Portmany), José Torres (CC Santa Eulàlia), Rafel Piedra (CC Missatger Eivissa) and Nicolae Placinta (CC Missatger Eivissa) among the top five.
In middle distance, José Luis Rodríguez was second, Andrei Daniel Marc fourth and Miguel Ángel Prats fifth, all from CC Missatger Eivissa.
Other awards
- As Colom Balear: a one-two for CC Santa Eulàlia, with the Torres-Marsà tandem first and Pedro Colomar second.
- Balearic Prestige, two-year-olds: won by Soanca Catalin (CC Santa Eulàlia), with José Luis Rodríguez second.
- Balearic Prestige, three-year-olds: third place for Adina Munteanu (CC Missatger Eivissa).
- Women’s championship: second place for Lorena Sánchez (CC Santa Eulàlia), behind Carme Molinas of CC Porreres.
- Ibiza island speed championship: José Luis Rodríguez champion, Florin Bud second and Pedro Colomar third.
A strong tradition
Pigeon racing has a long tradition in the Balearics, where clubs organise races across the sea from the mainland and between the islands. The results confirm that the Santa Eulàlia and Missatger Eivissa clubs are among the strongest in the region, and that Ibiza’s fanciers — including a growing number from the island’s Romanian community — compete on equal terms with the larger Mallorcan clubs.
