What a yellow warning means
A yellow warning indicates that temperatures are high enough to pose a risk to vulnerable people and those working or exercising outdoors, although they are not exceptional for the time of year.
Staying safe
The Balearic emergency service, 112, advises taking particular care between midday and 4pm:
- drink plenty of water, even if you are not thirsty;
- stay in the shade or in cool places;
- wear light, loose clothing and a hat;
- apply sun cream regularly;
- avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest hours;
- never leave children, older people or pets in a parked car, even for a few minutes.
Signs of heat exhaustion include headache, dizziness, nausea, heavy sweating and cramps. Anyone affected should move to a cool place, drink water and rest. If symptoms worsen or the person becomes confused, call 112.
