FC Germania Mallorca, a new club founded on the island in April by four German friends, is continuing to build its squad for its first season — with the ambitious target of reaching LaLiga by 2036.
To do that, the club will need to climb seven divisions, starting in the Primera Regional, the lowest level of the Balearic Football Federation’s competitions.
A former Bundesliga player as coach
Two weeks ago the club appointed former Bundesliga player Thorsten Legat as head coach, bringing top-flight experience to a team that is starting at the bottom of the football pyramid.
Sporting director who also plays
The club has also signed Bastian Müller as sporting director. Müller came through the youth system at Bayern Munich, later played for Fortuna Düsseldorf and captained Alemannia Aachen when they won promotion to Germany’s third tier. As well as handling transfers, he will also play for the team.
First signings
The first player announced was striker Daniele Buccolilo, a content creator with more than 830,000 social media followers, whose profile has already brought the project plenty of attention. He was followed by goalkeeper Gavin Didzilatis, who arrives from 1. FC Köln’s reserve team.
2,000 applications for trials
Interest in the project has been huge. When the club announced open trials, around 2,000 players applied.
The plan
The founders want to combine experienced German players with local talent recruited through open trials, set up a professional training environment from the outset, and build a following through social media and community events.
The team’s first test will be a match on 14 August.
Climbing from regional football to LaLiga in a decade would be an extraordinary achievement — only a handful of Spanish clubs have managed anything similar. But with a well-known coach, strong social media reach and a large pool of players to choose from, FC Germania Mallorca has made a high-profile start.
