Hestia Menorca have lost two of their most important players, with guards Fernando Zurbriggen and Jalen Cone both completing moves to new clubs.
Zurbriggen to Estudiantes
Argentine point guard Fernando Zurbriggen has signed for Movistar Estudiantes, where he will be reunited with coach Toni Ten, with whom he worked at Flexicar Fuenlabrada in the 2024/25 season.
Estudiantes’ sporting director, Íñigo de la Villa, described Zurbriggen as the type of player around whom the team can be built, and the Madrid club hopes he will be a leader for its younger players.
Cone to Córdoba
American guard Jalen Cone has joined Coto Córdoba CB, recently promoted. Hestia Menorca thanked him for his attitude, his talent and his affection for the island during his time with the club.
Cone, in turn, said he had come to consider Menorca his home, and promised to give his best at his new club.
A loss for Menorca
Both players were central to Hestia Menorca’s recent success, providing leadership and scoring from the backcourt. Their departures leave a significant gap to fill in the coming season.
Reaction
Supporters took to social media to thank both players and share memories of their best moments in Maó, while wishing them well in their new clubs.
What next for Hestia Menorca
The club now has to rebuild its backcourt. That could mean new signings, as well as opportunities for young players coming through. Menorcan basketball has a long tradition — the island’s team has played in the top flight in the past — and the club’s challenge is to remain competitive with a budget much smaller than many of its rivals.
Summer is always a time of change for clubs like Hestia Menorca, which often develop players who then move on to bigger teams. The departures of Zurbriggen and Cone are, in part, a sign of how well both performed on the island.
