Solar panel customers in Mallorca say they have lost tens of thousands of euros

Clients of a company based in Campos, many of them German residents, report paying deposits for installations that were never carried out.

A growing number of customers in the south of Mallorca, many of them German residents, say they have lost tens of thousands of euros after paying deposits to a solar installation company based in Campos for work that was never carried out.

The complaints

The complaints began to surface after a German-language newspaper on the island reported the first cases. Since then, more people have come forward with similar stories:

  • One resident in the Santanyí area says she paid around €30,000 for a photovoltaic system that was never installed. She has filed a fraud complaint and hired a lawyer.
  • A homeowner in Es Llombards paid a €7,500 deposit for a €15,000 installation. When she tried to arrange the start of work, nobody answered.
  • A German owner of a new house in Santanyí paid more than €12,000 and travelled to Mallorca for the agreed start date, only to find nobody to talk to.

The company

The company’s showroom in Campos, open since 2021, now appears as permanently closed online. Former employees say they have been laid off without being paid their wages. Attempts by journalists to obtain a response from the company’s management were unsuccessful.

Some of those affected are discussing a joint legal action to try to recover their money. The allegations have not been tested in court.

How to protect yourself

The boom in rooftop solar has brought many new installers into the market. Consumer organisations recommend:

  • checking the company’s registration, reviews and track record;
  • getting several quotes;
  • signing a detailed written contract with a timetable and specifications;
  • avoiding large upfront payments, and linking payments to stages of the work;
  • paying by traceable methods and keeping all receipts and messages;
  • checking whether the installation qualifies for grants and who will process them.

If you’re affected

Anyone affected should gather all contracts, invoices and communications, file a complaint with the Guardia Civil or police, and seek advice from a lawyer or a consumer association. The Balearic government’s consumer affairs department can also provide guidance.
