Alcúdia, between the bays of Alcúdia and Pollença in the north of Mallorca, has become one of the island’s leading destinations for active holidays. Its combination of coast, plains and hills means visitors can swim, cycle, sail and hike without leaving the municipality.
Cycling
From Alcúdia, cyclists can choose easy coastal rides, rolling routes inland or the big climbs of the north of the island, towards Formentor, Lluc, Artà and the Puig Major. Many hotels cater specifically for cyclists, with secure bike storage, workshops, sports-oriented meals and flexible check-in times.
Water sports
- Alcúdia beach: paddleboarding, jet skis, parasailing and boat trips.
- Can Cap de Bou, on Pollença Bay: a favourite spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing thanks to its reliable breezes.
- Alcudiamar marina: sailing courses, equipment hire and events such as a charity regatta in support of Projecte Home Balears.
Walking
Inland routes lead through pine woods and protected natural areas. Highlights include:
- the Ermita de la Victòria, with views over the bay;
- the Talaia d’Alcúdia, an old watchtower above the sea;
- Coll Baix, a dramatic cove reached on foot;
- Puig de Sant Martí, a gentle summit;
- S’Albufera, Mallorca’s largest wetland and a paradise for birdwatchers.
Golf
Golf Alcanada, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., overlooks the bay and the lighthouse islet of Alcanada, and is regarded as one of the most beautiful courses in Spain.
Events
Alcúdia regularly hosts major sporting events, including the Ironman 70.3 Alcúdia-Mallorca triathlon, stages of the Challenge Ciclista Mallorca, trail runs, open-water swims, swimrun races and golf tournaments.
From 29 October to 1 November 2026, Golf Alcanada will host the season-ending Grand Final of the HotelPlanner Tour, where players compete for places on the DP World Tour.
All year round
Mallorca’s mild climate is a big part of the appeal. Cooler months are ideal for cycling and hiking, while summer brings perfect conditions for water sports. For the municipality, sport is also a way of extending the tourist season beyond the summer peak.
