Guerrilla Games, the studio behind Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, has announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, an online co-operative game set in the Horizon universe, for PlayStation 5 and PC.
From idea to full game
Guerrilla says the concept of hunting machines together dates back to early brainstorming for the series and has gone through several prototypes before becoming a full project.
Hunting as a team
Squads of up to three players work together to take down the robotic creatures that roam the world of Horizon. The studio promises tactical, skill-based combat that builds on the precise mechanics of the main games — targeting weak points, using the right weapons and elements — but with a much greater emphasis on teamwork.
Two modes
- Machine incursion: teams fight waves of increasingly dangerous machines emerging from underground strongholds.
- Descent into the Cauldron: longer missions with high-risk encounters, unique rewards and hidden story secrets.
Hunters and a social hub
Players choose from a range of hunters, each with their own abilities, personality and story, which develop through the campaign.
Between missions, players return to the Hunters Gathering, a social hub where they can:
- customise their characters and equipment;
- meet other players and non-player characters;
- form new squads, with cross-play between PS5 and PC.
Progress will carry over between the two platforms.
How to get in early
A closed beta starts in late February 2026. Players can register through the PlayStation Beta Program using their PlayStation Network account. No release date has been announced.
The wider Horizon universe
Guerrilla is also working with the Korean company NCSOFT on Horizon Steel Frontiers, a massively multiplayer online game for PC and mobile. Together, the two projects show Sony expanding one of its most successful series beyond single-player adventures — following a broader industry trend towards games designed to be played with friends over long periods.
