Three new free PS5 demos you can play without PlayStation Plus

Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok, High On Life 2 and The Adventures of Elliot all have free demos on the PlayStation Store.

Three new demos have arrived on the PlayStation Store, and none of them requires a PlayStation Plus subscription. Here is what each offers.

Cygames’ action role-playing game is getting an expanded edition, Endless Ragnarok, which launches on PS4 and PS5 on 9 July. The demo has three modes:

  • Story: play part of the campaign and earn rewards that carry over to the full game.
  • Missions: four types of mission, with cross-play support so you can team up with friends.
  • Tutorial: learn the basics of combat and controls.

High On Life 2

Squanch Games’ sequel to its comic science-fiction shooter keeps the talking guns, strange alien worlds and irreverent humour of the original, and adds a skateboard for getting around faster. The demo includes the first two missions.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales – Prologue

Square Enix’s new action role-playing game uses the company’s HD-2D style, which mixes pixel-art characters with detailed 3D environments. The prologue follows Elliot and his companion Faie on the first steps of their adventure, giving a good sense of the story and combat.

Try before you buy

The three demos cover very different genres — a Japanese action RPG, a comedy shooter and a fantasy adventure — and are a good way of finding out whether a game is for you before paying full price. With game prices now regularly reaching €70 or more, free demos are a welcome return for players.
