Two women's teams from Club Tennis Mercadal win Balearic padel titles

Cala Rotja and Cala Viola won their categories at the FPIB League finals, earning places in the Spanish Cup in November.

Club Tennis Mercadal has had a memorable weekend in padel, with its two women’s teams winning Balearic titles in their categories at the finals of the Balearic padel federation (FPIB) League, held at Palma Pádel Club.

Cala Rotja: green category champions

The Cala Rotja team won the green category after beating Nomads Es Jordi from Mallorca in a closely fought final.

Cala Viola: blue category champions

Cala Viola took the blue category title, defeating BFit Pádel from Ibiza with a strong performance at the net and consistent play from the back of the court.

On to the Spanish Cup

Both teams have earned places in the Spanish Cup, to be held in November at the El Prat padel club in Barcelona, where they will face the best teams from across Spain. FPIB delegate Óscar Gomila congratulated the Menorcan players on their success.

So close for the men

The club’s men’s team, Exclusivas Pons, came very close to retaining its title in the white category. In the final against Rusfit A from Mallorca, the match went to a third-set tie-break, which the Mallorcan side won.

The runners-up place still earns the men’s team a spot in the Silver Cup, which brings together finalists from each region and will also be held in November, in Madrid.

A club on the rise

The results confirm the growing strength of Club Tennis Mercadal in padel, a sport that has boomed across the Balearics in recent years. For a club from a small inland town in Menorca, two regional titles and three places in national competitions are a significant achievement.

The teams now have several months to prepare for November, when they will represent Menorca against clubs from much larger cities.
