The Consell de Menorca has resolved its 2025 call for cultural grants, awarding the full €320,000 available to organisations that run cultural activities on the island throughout the year.
Who could apply
The grants were open to non-profit cultural associations registered in the Balearic Islands, recognised religious bodies, foundations based in the region and Menorca’s neighbourhood associations. The aim is to support year-round cultural programming rather than one-off events.
The results
The island council received 46 applications, of which 42 were approved. Four were turned down, either because they were submitted after the deadline or because the projects did not fit the cultural purpose of the call.
The largest grants went to:
| Organisation | Grant |
|---|---|
| AtxeM! | €35,585 |
| Trobades Literàries del Mediterrani (Mediterranean Literary Meetings) | €24,779 |
| Ateneu de Maó | €24,483 |
| Fundació Rubió | €22,677 |
| Líthica | €19,959 |
Year-round culture
Joan Pons Torres, the council’s member responsible for culture, said the Consell had kept its commitment to the organisations that sustain the island’s cultural life all year, and that the support helps position Menorca as a cultural reference point in the Mediterranean.
The competitive grants are in addition to the direct, named grants included each year in the council’s budget for specific organisations, so the total public support for culture on the island is higher than this call alone.
Why it matters
Much of Menorca’s cultural activity outside the summer season — concerts, literary festivals, exhibitions, the protection of the talayotic heritage — depends on small associations and volunteers. Grants like these help them plan programmes in advance and keep cultural life going during the quieter months, when the island’s population is at its smallest.
