Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, are reported to be planning to marry over the Fourth of July weekend in New York, with the main celebration expected on 3 July near Madison Square Garden.
What the permits show
According to municipal permits reported by The New York Times, the event company Winick Productions applied for permission to put up a large tent or awning outside Madison Square Garden. The permit is for an audience of between 500 and 999 people — in line with a large private celebration — and allows streets around the venue to be closed from 2 July until midday on 4 July.
Neither Swift nor Kelce has publicly confirmed the date or location.
Signs of a wedding
Several Chiefs players are reported to have booked hotel rooms in Times Square around 3 July, and police officers patrolling a nearby subway station have reportedly been told that the wedding is scheduled for the holiday weekend.
The couple announced their engagement in August 2025.
A very busy weekend
The timing means New York will be exceptionally busy:
- 4 July 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of US independence, with fireworks across the city and a parade of sailing ships on the Hudson.
- 5 July brings a World Cup match at MetLife Stadium in neighbouring New Jersey.
Hotels, restaurants and transport are expected to be under heavy pressure, and visitors are advised to book well in advance.
For fans hoping to be nearby
- Expect road closures around Madison Square Garden; public transport is the best way to get around.
- Follow official city announcements for changes to closures and safety measures.
- Respect police and event staff instructions: the celebration is a private event.
A celebrity wedding of the year
Swift, the most commercially successful musician of her generation, and Kelce, one of the NFL’s best-known players, have been one of the most closely followed couples in the world since their relationship became public in 2023. Whatever the final details, the wedding is set to be one of the most talked-about celebrity events of the year.
