Sony has announced the monthly games for PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers in July: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, For the King II and CrossCode.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III
Activision’s 2023 shooter continues the story of Task Force 141, with Captain Price and his team hunting the ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov. The cross-gen bundle includes:
- the single-player campaign;
- multiplayer, with remastered maps from earlier games in the series;
- Zombies, a co-operative mode against waves of enemies.
For the King II
A sequel set in the fantasy kingdom of Fahrul, combining turn-based strategy, tactical role-playing and roguelite elements. Players can go solo or team up with up to three friends. The map changes on every run and positioning your party is key in combat, so no two games are the same.
CrossCode
A retro-style action RPG with 16-bit graphics, set inside a fictional massively multiplayer online game. Players follow Lea, a young woman with no memory, as she explores, fights in real time and solves puzzles to discover the truth about her past. It has built a strong reputation among fans of the genre for its challenging puzzles and fluid combat.
How to get them
The games can be added to subscribers’ libraries from Tuesday 7 July to Monday 3 August through the PlayStation Plus section on PS5 and PS4. Once claimed, they remain available as long as the subscription is active.
Last chance for June’s games
Subscribers have until 6 July to claim the June titles:
- Grounded: Fully Yoked Edition (PS5/PS4);
- Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 (PS5/PS4);
- Warhammer 40,000: Darktide (PS5).
A mixed line-up
July’s selection offers something for different tastes: a big-budget shooter for online play, a strategy game designed for groups of friends, and an acclaimed independent RPG. Note that Modern Warfare III carries a PEGI 18 rating, while the other two are suitable for younger players.
