Platja de Muro, on Alcúdia Bay in the north of Mallorca, has been ranked the fourth-best beach in Europe in a 2026 ranking based on Google Maps reviews. It also had more reviews than any other beach in the top ten.
Seven kilometres of sand
The beach stretches for about seven kilometres along the bay between Port d’Alcúdia and Can Picafort. It is not especially wide, but the sand is fine and soft and the water is shallow and clear, making it popular with families.
Four sections
Sectors 1 and 2. The busiest and most developed parts of the beach, with sun loungers, beach bars and hotels. The wooden jetties here are a favourite spot for watching the sunset.
Es Comú. This section lies within the S’Albufera Natural Park. A narrow strip of dunes separates the sea from the wetlands behind, and the beach is backed by pines, scrub and juniper. It is the wildest and most natural part of the beach.
Ses Casetes des Capellans. This area has an unusual history. It was once common land where local people collected firewood, with a single hut used by priests — the capellans of the name. Over the years, residents built their own shelters, first from canvas, then reeds and eventually concrete, creating the cluster of small holiday houses that stands there today.
What to do
- Paddleboarding and kayaking in the calm, shallow water.
- Beach volleyball and other games on the sand.
- Walking or cycling to the S’Albufera wetlands, one of the best birdwatching spots in the Balearics.
- Watching the sunset from the jetties.
Tips for visiting
- Arrive early in summer to find a spot, especially near the busier sectors.
- For a quieter experience, head to Es Comú.
- Respect the dunes in the natural park: use the marked paths and do not walk on the vegetation.
- Buses run along the bay from Alcúdia and Can Picafort, and there are car parks near the busier sectors.
The ranking confirms what many visitors already know: Platja de Muro combines the facilities of a resort beach with stretches of protected natural landscape.
