LEC Versus: Movistar KOI one win away from the Badalona finals

Every first-round play-off match ended 2–0; KOI face NAVI while G2 and Karmine Corp clash in the upper bracket.

The play-offs of LEC Versus, the new winter competition in Europe’s top League of Legends league, are heating up, with places at the first finals weekend in Badalona at stake.

Clean sweeps

The first round of the play-offs was one-sided: every match ended 2–0, with no team forcing a deciding game.

Movistar KOI v NAVI

Movistar KOI, the Spanish team, put a shaky regular season behind them with a convincing win over Team Vitality. Next up is Natus Vincere (NAVI), who swept Fnatic 2–0 and look in strong form. The winner is guaranteed at least a place in the lower bracket at the finals in Badalona.

G2 v Karmine Corp

The other upper-bracket match is a clash between two favourites. G2 Esports ended Team Heretics’ strong run with a 2–0 win, while Karmine Corp, one of the league’s form teams, dominated Spain’s GIANTX.

Win or go home

In the lower bracket, two Spanish teams, Team Heretics and GIANTX, face each other, and only one will survive. Fnatic meet Team Vitality in the other elimination match.

The finals

The finals weekend takes place at the Olimpic Arena in Badalona from 27 February to 1 March — a major event for Spanish esports, bringing Europe’s top League of Legends teams to Catalonia.

Spanish interest

With Movistar KOI, Team Heretics and GIANTX all in the play-offs, Spain is well represented, and a home crowd in Badalona would give any Spanish team that qualifies a significant boost. KOI, in particular, will hope to build on their improvement and reach the finals weekend.

The matches are broadcast on the official LEC channels and by Spanish broadcasters.
