Supercell’s farming game Hay Day has recruited pop star Joe Jonas to provide the soundtrack for its summer. Jonas has recorded “The Cozy Anthem”, an original song based on the game’s main theme, which is at the centre of an in-game music festival running from 16 to 30 June.
Why Joe Jonas
The singer says Hay Day is a way for him to switch off from a busy schedule of recording and touring. He described the game as a calm space to unwind, and said recording his own version of its familiar melody was a fun way to combine music and gaming. He hopes players will put their own spin on the song.
What happens in the game
During the festival:
- “The Cozy Anthem” plays on every farm while players plant, harvest and decorate;
- floating musical notes appear on screen, and tapping them contributes to community goals that unlock up to 13 permanent sound decorations;
- from 18 to 30 June, special visual themes and alternative versions of the song arrive in the in-game mailbox;
- a web-based remix tool lets players change instruments and tempo, and share their version on TikTok;
- players can earn a jukebox decoration that keeps playing the song after the event ends.
How to take part
Players need the latest version of Hay Day on iOS or Android, and can join by logging in during the event and following the festival banner on their farm’s home screen.
A growing trend
Game developers are increasingly turning to musicians to keep long-running titles fresh. Hay Day, released in 2012, is one of Supercell’s longest-running games and still has millions of players worldwide. Collaborations like this one aim to attract new players while giving existing ones something different to do on their farms.
