Henry, Kaká and Schweinsteiger join Clash of Clans to celebrate the return of global chat

Supercell is marking the World Cup summer with a football-themed Clan War League and three legends talking teamwork.

Supercell’s mobile strategy game Clash of Clans is bringing back its global chat, and it has enlisted three football greats — Thierry Henry, Kaká and Bastian Schweinsteiger — to celebrate the return during the World Cup summer.

Global chat is back

Global chat lets players talk to others outside their own clan. Supercell is presenting it as a kind of digital dressing room, where players can:

  • find clans that suit their style of play;
  • share battle plans in real time;
  • discuss troop combinations and timing;
  • size up opponents before going into battle.

The legends on teamwork

Thierry Henry said that winning, whether on the pitch or on a phone screen, comes down to talking to your team, giving everyone a role and rehearsing each move — and that the desire to win never goes away.

Kaká described the return of global chat as a win for the community, comparing it to football, where sharing ideas and pulling together lead to success.

Bastian Schweinsteiger said the best teams are built on trust, clear communication and good tactics, and that the best moments of his career came when everyone stuck together and did their job — something he sees reflected in Clan Wars.

A football-themed league

To coincide with the World Cup, the game is running a special, limited-time Clan War League with football-inspired challenges and rewards for coordinated clans.

Football and gaming

Collaborations between video games and footballers have become common, as publishers look to tap into the enormous audience around major tournaments. Clash of Clans, released in 2012, remains one of the most played mobile games in the world, and features like global chat are aimed at keeping its community active more than a decade after launch.
