Alejandro Sanz returns to Palma with a packed Son Moix concert

More than 20,000 fans filled the stadium for the singer's first concert in Mallorca in eleven years.

Alejandro Sanz returned to Mallorca after eleven years with a concert at the Son Moix stadium in Palma, in front of more than 20,000 fans who sang along to his hits from start to finish.

The return

The Madrid-born singer, one of the best-selling Spanish artists of recent decades, has a long relationship with Mallorca, and the concert was billed as a reunion with the island’s audience. Before he appeared, the giant screen played messages announcing his arrival, building anticipation in the stadium.

When he finally walked on stage, in dark glasses and with his red guitar, the crowd erupted.

The show

The concert combined ballads, pop hits and flamenco-influenced songs that span his whole career, from the classics that made him famous in the 1990s to his more recent material. The production included powerful sound, lighting and a huge video screen, and the audience responded throughout with clapping, dancing and phone lights.

The audience

The crowd was notably mixed: parents with their children, groups of friends, couples and long-time fans who had followed him for decades. Many had arrived hours before the gates opened to get a good spot near the stage. Some fans told local reporters that what they valued most was the honesty of his lyrics and his live voice.

The tour

Palma was one of the first stops on a Spanish stadium tour that began in Seville and passed through Bilbao before arriving in Mallorca. Sanz reached the island a few days before the concert and spent some time relaxing, including a visit to Cabrera, before heading to Son Moix on the day of the show.

Son Moix as a concert venue

The stadium, home of RCD Mallorca, is increasingly used for big summer concerts, which bring thousands of visitors to Palma and boost hotels, restaurants and transport. For the fans who filled it that night, though, the important thing was simply seeing one of Spain’s most beloved artists back on the island after more than a decade.
